How do you wash the bad taste of the horrendous Batman v Superman out of your mouth? How do you go back to loving these characters after they have been thoroughly destroyed by the likes of Zack Snyder? Fear not, Batfans! The answer, as with most things, is with Legos.
2014’s The Lego Movie was one of the biggest surprises of that year for me. A hilarious, well made kids film that surprisingly had a lot to say about imagination and inclusiveness. One of the biggest joys of the film was Will Arnett’s take on Batman. A portrayal that totally embraces how ridiculous a dark, brooding guy that dresses up like a giant bat actually is. It’s one of the best Batmans I’ve seen on the big screen (Christian Bale still sucks). Well the Gods of Lego have seen fit to bless us with an entire Lego movie based on the character. The first trailer for The Lego Batman Movie dropped last week and can be seen above.
And the second trailer dropped yesterday because Batman is so awesome he gets two (or they’re trying to distract you from the awful BvS reviews). You can check that one out below:
Guys, I have no idea what this movie is going to be about and I don’t care. This looks absolutely wonderful. I’d rather watch a Lego Batman microwave lobster thermidor for 20 minutes than watch another second of Dawn of Justice. Bruce talking to a picture of his parents saying he thinks they would have been proud of him is more touching than anything present in that film either. Everything in both of these trailers is an absolute joy. Batman can be fun! Hurray for fun Batman!
This movie also stars Michael Cera as Robin which is the most perfect casting in the history of cinema.
The Lego Batman Movie comes out in 2017. That’s a really long time to wait to see Bruce Wayne’s parents being killed for the 5,000th time.
